Caldwell Living
When Canyon County was established in March 1891, Caldwell was named as its county seat. The area had previously played host to the Hudson’s Bay Company, which established Fort Boise in 1834, and to a number of immigrants traveling via the Oregon Trail, which bisects the county.

Today, Caldwell is home to just over 30,000 residents and is the gateway to the picturesque Treasure Valley. Surrounded by tranquil mountains and lovely deserts and situated on the Boise River, Caldwell has a surplus of natural beauty. Caldwell attracts many visitors and residents with a hankering for adventure, whether it be rock hounds, boaters, fishermen, white water rafters, golfers, hikers, swimmers or birders. The city has 10 local parks and two golf courses. Caldwell is also just minutes from downtown Boise, which itself, as Idaho’s booming capital, offers a kaleidoscope of diversions.

Although Caldwell’s economy is anchored by agriculture in and around the city, its growth continues to diversify its businesses. Caldwell is the foundation community of the J. R. Simplot Company, one of the world’s largest producers and processors of frozen food products, and continues to welcome many new and varied businesses each year.

Caldwell is also the site of Albertson College of Idaho, the #1-ranked small liberal arts college in the nation and home to over 800 students. Founded as the College of Idaho in 1891, Albertson embodies its slogan, "Awaken the Mind, Encounter Truth, Contribute to Community,” and prides itself on small classes, challenging curriculum and up-to-date technology.

The strong sense of community in Caldwell is evident in the friendly, helpful attitudes of its residents and in the diversity of the local events. From the Caldwell Night Rodeo to the Cinco de Mayo celebration, Caldwell’s residents relish their heritage and community spirit. From one of these entertaining events, or from a peaceful stroll around the city one evening, you can check out one of Caldwell’s many delicious restaurants, whether it’s the Creekside Grill or the Acapulco Mexican Restaurant.

The city of Caldwell offers a rare combination of a small-town atmosphere with urban amenities and rural recreational opportunities!
